Before AI

Rendering a 3D image took several steps, from the creation of a 3D model to the final output of a 2D image or animation.

3D Modeling: First, a 3D model is created, which is a mathematical representation of any three-dimensional surface. A model is created using 3D modeling software like Blender, Autodesk Maya, 3ds Max, or Cinema 4D.

Texturing: Once we have a model, we need to apply textures. Texturing involves mapping a 2D image onto the surface of a 3D model to give it colour and detail.

Lighting: The next step is lighting, which is critical as it gives the model depth and a sense of space.

Rendering Setup: We need to set up the camera angle, deciding on the rendering method (such as ray tracing or rasterization), and set the quality.

Rendering: The rendering process is where the computer generates the final image or sequence of images. The software calculates how the light interacts with the materials and objects and produces the final pixels of the image. This can take a significant amount of time, depending on the complexity of the scene and the quality settings. 6-18 hours was common.

Post-Processing: After rendering, we may have needed to take the image into a software like Adobe Photoshop or After Effects for any final tweaks or adjustments.
